D. Kim Glinka, B.S.
Senior Wildlife Biologist

 

Ms. Glinka has over 17 years of experience in wildlife biology, including research studies, species inventory surveys, biological assessments, and environmental inspection on large to small-scale projects throughout California. She is responsible for field crew management and coordination, serves as an agency/client liaison, and leads environmental training sessions on a diverse range of topics for various audiences. She has also functioned as a lead environmental compliance inspector on numerous large-scale utility and energy transmission projects. She has co-authored numerous biological assessments, biological constraints analyses, environmental impact reports, and other environmental planning technical documents to facilitate obtaining project permits and authorizations. Ms. Glinka holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies and Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, California.

Ms. Glinka has conducted field studies for a variety of projects involving public utility and energy transmission, the establishment of conservation/mitigation lands, species inventories and ecological studies on federal lands for the U.S Geological Survey, U.S Forest Service, the Yosemite Fund, and and private development projects. She has worked with various agencies, resource specialists, and other consultants throughout California, and in Oregon and Utah. She has a strong knowledge of the natural history, behavior and habitat associations of special-status amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. She has extensive experience utilizing field methodologies and current agency-specified protocols for determining presence of special-status species including: aquatic sampling, visual surveys, and pit fall trapping for amphibians and aquatic reptiles; visual surveys for terrestrial reptiles; point counts, transect surveys, and nest monitoring for birds/raptors; spotlighting and establishing track and remote photo stations for larger mammals; live-trapping small mammals; and mist netting, radio-tracking and acoustically monitoring bats. She is currently authorized by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in project Biological Opinions to survey for and handle California red-legged frogs. She has performed extensive surveys for and is proficient in identifying and monitoring a variety of sensitive amphibians and reptiles and other wildlife species throughout California including but not limited to California tiger salamander, California red-legged frog, mountain and foothill yellow-legged frogs, cascade frog, blunt-nosed leopard lizard, San Francisco garter snake, western pond turtle, Swainson's hawk, prairie falcon, golden eagle, western burrowing owl, Giant kangaroo rat, and San Joaquin kit fox. She is also proficient in using Trimble global positioning system (GPS) units to record the locations of natural resources to submeter level.
